Are You Aware of How You Nourish Your Mind?
What would you answer to anyone who asks you how you nourish your mind? Perhaps you’d talk about your conscious effort to eat more organic products and more fruit and vegetables or perhaps you’d admit to eating more processed foods than you should. How would you answer the question of what you’re nourishing your mind with? This a question many people seldom pay attention to.
Furthermore, you’re continuously nourishing your mind without even realizing it. Thus, what you think, what you see, what you hear, and what you do feeds you deep inside and makes you who you are.
For instance, are you happy and positive? Do you feel charged, irritable, and pessimistic? Are you worried or grateful? Although you may not know it, the information that comes to you from your inner and outer world is constantly shaping who you are. Thus, are you aware of its quality?
“Passion is of the nature of seed, and finds nourishment within, tending to a predominance which determines all currents towards itself, and makes the whole life its tributary.”
-George Eliot-
Peace
Firstly, most people have internalized a concept of happiness based on achieving goals and success. However, true well-being comes from achieving peace and inner calm. Indeed, it’s hard to obtain and requires perseverance and training, as it doesn’t come naturally.
Thus, try to dedicate at least half an hour of every day to a space of silence, quietness, and presence. Take a breath, practice meditation, and walk through nature. Simply connect with yourself away from external distractions. This short period of time will be enough to generate visible changes in your mood and anxiety levels.
Thoughts
You wouldn’t leave your thoughts to chance if you were aware of their power. What you think, how you consider yourself and others, and what you expect from life determines how you feel.
People tend to believe their thoughts are a direct consequence of their reality. “I’ll be upset if something goes wrong.” But the truth is that you always have the power to choose your thoughts and direct your life.
Are you nourishing your mind with optimism, positivity, understanding, and restraint? Or, on the contrary, are you feeding yourself pessimistic, victimizing, critical, and exaggerated thoughts?
What kind of information do you nourish your mind with?
Every day, you have access to a lot of information, both voluntarily and involuntarily. The shows you choose to watch on TV, the music you listen to, and the books you read have an impact, be it beneficial or harmful.
What content do you consume and what information do you seek? What emotions do they produce in you? Imagine that your mind is like a computer and that any information it receives will program it before you choose it.
This way, you’ll have the possibility of programming yourself for happiness, love, fun, and gratitude, and not for injustice, misfortunes, and the darkest aspects of life. Remember that this information will continue to work inside you once you close the book or turn off the radio or television.
Relationships
Finally, you need to know that you’re the sum of the five people you most commonly interact with. This is precisely why it’s important to surround yourself with human beings who inspire you, motivate you, appreciate you, and respect you.
Thus, choose the type of company that provides you with what you want to reflect upon if you want to become a kind, responsible, happy, and positive person. Nothing drains energy more than manipulative and negative people.
Consciously nourish your mind
People usually walk through life on autopilot and without paying too much attention to the aforementioned aspects. Thus, you must make a conscious effort to deliberately choose what you want in your life.
Finally, pay attention to those around you, the activities you do every day, and the thoughts you usually have. Are they nurturing and enriching? Do they contribute to the person you want to be and the environment you want to be part of? Therefore, a healthy mind, a positive state of mind, and a satisfying life depend on the small choices you make every day to a great extent. Thus, don’t give up your power!
