Love: the Best Shelter During Tough Times
Love shelters me during tough times. Every time I have had to overcome a situation that has put my own emotional and sentimental stability at risk, I have sought shelter in this universal concept. In it, I have found good ideas to mitigate my pain.
Because it is true that love shelters me, but what exactly is love? Is it a concept invented by man? Is it a feeling? Is it an emotion? Does it possess as many meanings as the number of societies who have interpreted it throughout history?
The truth is that I can’t define love in its entirety, but I do know it is something that helps me when I need it most. It always accompanies me when the terrain I travel is not as flat and easy to cross as it should be.
“I love like love loves. I don’t know any other reason to love than to love you. What else do you want me to say besides that I love you, if what I want to tell you is that I love you?”
-Fernando Pessoa-
Love shelters me when I need it the most
Beyond extensive philosophical situations, I would like to focus my following words on the shelter that love always provides when I’m going through a tough time. In borderline situations, in which you feel like your soul is going to break in half.
Have you ever had a sentimental breakup that made you feel like it was ripping your soul out? When a relationship ends, a very deep and hard to heal sorrow remains, no matter how strong your mind may be.
In that moment, love will be a great help in order to overcome a specially painful situation. Take shelter under the warm blanket of a loved family member like a mother, father, sibling or even a child. Or maybe with that good friend who is always by your side, no matter what happens, through thick and thin.
Love shelters me after a loss
Another exceptional moment in which love shelters us is after suffering a loss. Whenever a loved one leaves our lives, even beyond mere death, the people around us who love us will be a good healing balm in order to heal our sorrows.
“When my voice is silenced by death, my heart will continue talking to you.”
-Rabindranath Tagore-
Don’t solely think about the day in which that loved one abandoned this world. It may be a family member that goes on an endless voyage or leaves their home town for work reasons. Or maybe they go away because their current situation had become unbearable. Be it as it may, the feeling of loss is enormous, and it provokes a deep pain in your soul.
Love shelters me during my lowest moments
There are many ill-fated situations that lead us to need love. We use love to find the shelter that we ourselves are not able to find without help. Moments in which a helping hand from a loved one is indispensable. We need them to shed some light on our dark and battered soul.
The moments of crisis provoked by the loss of a job can be truly frustrating and painful. Specially for people and families that see their main source of income come abruptly to an end.
The end of a friendship can also push our mind, soul and heart into a deep state of lethargy. One from which you cannot escape without the help of loved ones who are willing to lend a hand. Loved ones are those who provide you with the glue you need to piece yourself back together. They give you back your confidence.
There are many bad moments into which we can unwillingly fall, without even a second’s notice. The lack of acceptance in a social group, the inability to adapt to a new position at work. The impossibility of making your dreams come true no matter how hard you try along with the great frustration this provokes, the need to communicate adequately and simply not being able to…
Thus, there are many tough times which we can experience, many turns in life that lead to unexpected surprises. However, remember that love shelters you if you have those loved ones close by. Ones who are always attentive to your needs. Always ready to pick you up and offer you a shoulder on which to rest your weary bones.
Love shelters me during tough times. The roads through which I travel aren’t always simple. But the understanding and love of those who love me allow me to look towards the future with optimism. As I stroll through my present with plenitude, while also learning from the past.
