Learn from Your Mistakes
We’ve all made plenty of mistakes throughout our lives: relationships with people who didn’t treat us well, decisions at work or in our personal lives that we later regretted, words that we didn’t mean to say that hurt other people…
It’s important to not only learn from your mistakes so that you don’t fall down again, but also to reflect on it and learn to fly after you fall. You shouldn’t let yourself be overcome by discouragement or negative thoughts about yourself. It’s essential to be able to go further and give priority to the right things.
“Mistakes are the portals of discovery.”
-James Joyce-
How to learn from your mistakes
Learning from our mistakes is difficult because we tend to do the same things in similar situations, but common sense and logic tell us that if we keep doing the same things, we’ll get the same results. Have you tried doing something completely different? If you do, you’ll see that you’ve learned from your mistakes, and you’ll be intelligent and determined about not making them again.
Sometimes mistakes come from a lack of consistency between what we desire and what we actually do. Maybe your way of life isn’t the way you wan’t it to be, but if you don’t do anything to change it, everything will seem like a mistake due to a simple lack of consistency. Therefore, you should analyze your life and see whether your actions are in line with your goals.
Always think positively
Throughout our lives, we punish ourselves with hurtful words, like “I can’t do it,” “I’m not capable,” “it’s impossible for me,” etc. These phrases should immediately be substituted for ones like “I will try,” “if I make a mistake I will learn from it,” “I will do the impossible,” or “I won’t give up.”
“There is a driving force more powerful than steam, electricity and atomic energy: the will.”
-Albert Einstein-
Don’t give up in the face of failure
You should analyze your mistakes carefully to see why you made them, but you also shouldn’t let failure paralyze you. Life is never a straight path; it’s full of bumps, curves, mountains, and all kinds of obstacles.
“A man can get discouraged many times, but he is not a failure until he begins to blame somebody else and stops trying.”
-John Borroughs-
Take responsibility
When we make a mistake, we tend to look for explanations in other people or situations that had nothing to do with it, so it’s important to stop, reflect, and take responsibility. It’s a sign of maturity, assuming the consequences of your mistakes and taking responsibility for them.
Learn to fly
If you learn, if you don’t give up, if you talk about yourself in a positive way, you’ll smile when you make a mistake because you’ll know that it was just a simple slip-up, and you can still learn to fly. You’ll fly towards your dreams, towards your desires, and you won’t let a simple mistake discourage you. Remember that success, in a broad sense, is made up of a bunch of little tests and failures that will turn into lessons learned.
Every one of us should assume responsibility for what happens in our lives and move forward, learning from every time we stumble. That’s the only way we’ll be able to get any further and achieve our dreams.
“If you want it, you can fly, you just have to trust you a lot.”
-Steve Jobs-
