Take Care of What Truly Makes You Happy

Take care of what truly makes you happy, smile, and feel at ease and invites you to disconnect from your daily routine. Take care of what makes your skin crawl, makes you jump out of joy, and invites you to be a better you by allowing you to learn and grow.

People forget to pay attention to what’s important. We must focus on the details, moments, and people we depend upon for happiness, wisdom, peace, and who love us in spite of the setbacks, cloudy days, and storms.

Few realize they won’t always be here and things won’t always happen as they expect. Yes, this can be frustrating. However, being aware of it helps you see the opportunities you didn’t take advantage of. It teaches you to value and set apart what’s valuable from what isn’t. Thus, you should take care of what makes you happy today, as tomorrow might be too late.

“For every minute you’re angry, you lose sixty seconds of happiness.”

Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed

People are natural procrastinators and fully believe that nothing will ever change, be it experiences or people. The thing is, no matter how much certainty you think you have, uncertainty is more real than all your expectations and assumptions put together. Thus, you can’t be sure of anything.

Perhaps tomorrow will be too late to spend time with your lover, your mother, father, brother, or friend. Maybe one of them will turn their life around and move away. Maybe the days in your current job, city, or neighborhood are already numbered. The passage of time always brings some kind of change, loss, and gain. This is something you should keep in mind.

It isn’t wrong to wait. In fact, patience is a virtue. However, it’s better to express everything than to keep it inside when it comes to feelings, bonds, and relationships. Although you might not be aware of it, one day it may be too late.

Phrases such as “Thank you”, “I love you”, and “You’re so good to me”

These types of phrases are more valuable when you actually say them for two simple reasons:

  • For one, because they express recognition and carry the implicit message that your loved ones are important to you and that you value their company and who they are, especially when you ask for forgiveness.
  • These phrases strengthen bonds. Giving and receiving affection and appreciation consolidates relationships through authenticity and love. Recognizing feelings shows you care and brings you even closer to those you love.

However, keep in mind that time is always running out to do what you have on your to-do list, especially what makes you happy. Be it reading a novel, visiting that fascinating country you’ve been dreaming about, starting or finishing a project, letting yourself be carried away by music and dancing, or learning to play an instrument. Set aside a few minutes or hours for what you like and brings beauty and happiness to your life.

The problem of focusing on what truly makes you happy

One of the biggest problems people have is that they tend to focus more on what they lack and want than on what they have. Think about it for a minute.

Do you ever look at the world through a negative filter and focus only what you don’t have, instead of being grateful for what you do have? It’s normal for bad days to overcome you and leave you with a feeling that there’s something missing.

This happens because the human brain has a certain tendency towards negativity, as it once had to guarantee our survival. It’s an evolutionary issue. The good thing is that you can take it into account just by being aware of its existence.

How about giving this habit a twist? What would happen if you spent a few minutes identifying everything that’s good for you every day? Just give it a try!

Identify what makes you happy and dedicate some of your time to it.

Every small detail makes you happy

It isn’t a huge sacrifice to recognize the value of what makes you happy. In fact, it’s often the small details that make the difference, those that provide you peace and quiet and connect you with the present, love, and your inner self.

For example, a simple “good morning” when you wake up, a call, a smile, or a hug on bad days are powerful gestures that bring happiness. There are also things like the smell of coffee or the sound of the rain while you read a book by the window. Strolling down your favorite place or simply doing absolutely nothing after an exhausting day.

The simplest things are often the most valuable but some people are incapable of perceiving them. On the contrary, they insist on pursuing happiness through the wrong paths and fail to realize that it’s closer than they think.

What’s the key? Your attitude, of course. Just accept that you have a lot to be grateful for and feel good about around you. However, this won’t happen if you insist on seeing things from your negative filter. Everything will begin to take on a different perspective once you begin to recognize that other people’s time is as valuable as your own.

Take care of what makes you happy, drives you to grow, and leads to positive emotions, moments, and experiences.
