Look Beyond Your Reflection in the Mirror
Today I sat in front of the mirror to talk with my reflection, to accept that I’m not perfect, to love myself the way I am. To see myself beyond my physical appearance for the first time and understand who I really am – an accumulation of all the experiences I’ve been through.
Today I learned that life is reflected on the skin. Although they say the eyes are mirrors of the soul, they’re also the door to hope. But sometimes it’s hard to look in the mirror and see beyond your appearance, to see that we’re not just made of flesh and bone, but also experiences, hopes, and dreams.
We’re not just flesh and bone – we’re everything we’ve been and everything we will be.
Wrinkles reflect worry around the eyes and laughter around the mouth. They reflect the words left unsaid as well as the ones that we blurted out and regretted later. They’re a part of us, a part that shows the world who we are.
It might be pretty hard to look into your soul when you look in the mirror. We tend to do this when we regret the past instead of looking towards the future, when we cling to what we’ve lost instead of valuing what we’ve gained, when we try to make ourselves look perfect, like porcelain, like we’re lifeless dolls without any life experience.
Learn from the past
But we’re more than meets the eye. We are our past, and it shows on our skin. The past shows us where we came from, but it does not determine where we will go. We’re the ones who choose where to take our next steps.
However, it’s important to remember to learn from the past without clinging to it. The past is a part of who we are, but it doesn’t define what we can be. It is the bricks that make up our foundation, but not what goes inside.
Remember that we’re not just a reflection of the past; we’re also whatever we fight to be tomorrow. We must honor the past and learn from our mistakes, but not let them determine every step we take.
If you choose to give up and let your past become your present, you’ll be nothing but a mere spectator in life and you’ll stop truly living.
The future is a reflection of what could be
Listening to my reflection, talking fearlessly about the future that I wanted to see in the mirror, I understood that the will to fight for what I really want is more valuable than the mistakes I’ve made in the past. You don’t always have to look at reality exactly the way it is, but what you can achieve if you do what you set out to do.
It takes time to build the future that you want, but you’ll only do so if you’re patient and don’t give up, no matter how far away your goals seem right now. It’s a virtue to persist in the face of adversity, a skill to learn from your mistakes, and a sign of intelligence to detach yourself from the stone that tripped you.
Today I sat in front of the mirror to talk with my reflection, and I understood that I am everything that I’ve lived through, and I will be everything that I want to be. It’s in my hands to fight for my dreams and learn from my mistakes. In the end, our dreams are within reach if we get to know ourselves beyond the image we project. Nobody is perfect, but we are wisely imperfect.
