Miguel de Lucas, Making the Impossible Possible

Magic is a bridge that makes the impossible possible. It’s an innovative mechanism that makes it possible for you to be your best self. Someone that’s more powerful, healthy, and happy, of course. This is what Miguel tells us in his book There’s a Magician in You: Discover Your Inner Magic.
In our interview with Miguel de Lucas, we learned that resources like magical thinking, visualization, and motivation can help you to achieve well-being in your daily life.

Interview with Miguel de Lucas
First of all, we’d like to know how you originally became interested in magic.
I became interested in illusionism at a very young age. I was influenced by the Aragonese magician, Pepe Carrol, who I used to see on TV. In fact, I was struck by the special way he communicated. Later, I went to the Ana Tamariz Magic School in Madrid.
How do you think magic and personal growth are connected?
Without a doubt, magic is the most effective way to see things that at first seem impossible as possible, so the relationship comes from there.
The first step to achieving something, whether it’s on a personal or professional level, is to visualize it and imagine it as being possible. This is what we do every day with magic.
What led you to write your book?
I felt I needed to share my own experiences of anxiety and depression with everyone. I thought my messages in the book might help a lot of people. In fact, sometimes, when I close my eyes, I dream that my book really is helping them to be brave and go see a psychologist or psychiatrist.
Your book is an invitation for us to make a magical journey to our inner self. This is an interesting proposal. What luggage do we need to take?
I think we should take our own dreams and our inner magician, who’s confident and capable. We should take anything that makes the trip happier. Of course, everyone knows for themselves what they should bring. However, at the end of the day, we’re all more or less the same, so love, affection, and enthusiasm will help us feel good along the way.
For those who haven’t heard about the book, what’s it about?
Techniques, resources, and tools from the world of illusionism that we can use in our personal and professional lives. Also, my own personal story, which, like all stories, has its ups and downs. It’s a story from my heart.
It’s a really sincere and extremely personal book. You tell us about yourself and your self-improvement process. With this in mind, would you say it’s possible to overcome anxiety and depression and smile again?
Yes, of course. We’re genetically programmed to survive and overcoming illness means surviving. If I did it, anyone can. Of course, reading the book can help and even inspire you, but nobody except you can help you move from a gray to a colorful world.
One of the most important keys to life that you mention in your book is perseverance. Why’ is that? How does it influence us and how can it help us?
It’s the ability to keep going. Keep going until we get what we want. Perseverance helps us feel good about ourselves because it makes us aware of what we’re achieving, which makes us feel good. Perseverance can also influence us in our goals.
What about positivity? Do you think a positive life perspective is essential? It’s an approach that’s criticized a lot today, so we’d like to know what you think.
For me, it’s essential. However, I understand there’s a lot of criticism towards it today in the world of personal development. I think that positivism is like seeing the glass half full instead of half empty, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this. Quite the opposite, in fact. I believe that this kind of perspective makes it easier for us to face all of life’s adventures.
How can we connect with the best version of ourselves?
Well, there are many ways. I’ll tell you how I do it. It’s a difficult exercise but also really exciting. You have to think in a certain way until you feel something inside of you pushing you to achieve your goals. This way, you’re able to gather your strength and keep pushing even when you feel you have nothing left.
You can achieve it with meditation or sports. Above all, you need a good and realistic action plan and to be motivated. Once you achieve your goals, your best version will start to grow and eventually become unstoppable.
Can you reveal any tricks you have to help us live a magical life?
There are some interesting little tips. I’ll tell you some that help me become aware of certain aspects related to emotion and intelligence. For example, people say “When emotion is high, intelligence is low”. This means that, sometimes, we can make decisions when emotions are running high and make mistakes. In the book, I also reveal more interesting tips.
Finally, can you recommend a song full of magic and enthusiasm to live by?
Without a doubt, La Sonrisa Intacta by Shinova. It’s a song of life and positivity. It really energizes me. I hope you like it too.
