Taking Action When You're Full of Fears

Last update: 27 March, 2019

We’ve all had a fear that kept us from taking action. For example, now you may be afraid that your partner will leave you, that you’ll lose your job, or even that you’ll have an accident. And several hidden attitudes that make you think about those fears even more.

When you fear something, you’ll end up attracting it in one way or another. For example, if you fear people will leave you, you’ll tend to build relationships with friends or partners that will make you feel abandoned.

Knowing that whatever you fear is actually happening can completely paralyze you or make you think you’re unlucky. And that’s exactly what keeps you from taking action and going a step further to get out of that unpleasant situation in which insecurities fully control your life.

Getting ahead of yourself

If you live in constant fear, you’re probably getting ahead of yourself. Perhaps you assume or imagine everything that can happen in the future. You tell yourself things such as “I know this job won’t last,” “They’ll find someone better than me,” or “This won’t turn out well.”

“Suspecting and knowing are not the same.”

-Rick Riordan-

Man inside tunnel, unable of taking action.

These thoughts make it hard for you to take action. Besides, you’ll inevitably feel stuck due to all the limitations you’ve been setting for yourself. They’re barriers that you’ve been building to the point that you don’t want to step out of your comfort zone.

Living in constant fear is nothing more than perception. Fear isn’t real. Spending hours imagining what could happen if you made a certain decision or what would happen if you stepped out of your comfort zone isn’t positive because you’re just feeding your insecurities.

Taking action is essential

Taking action is essential in life, from the most basic things such as deciding what you want to study, what job you’d like to have, or whether you want a person as your partner or not. I f you’re so afraid of making a decision, how would you act when there’s no option but to make it?

That’s when you could make a big mistake. Waiting until the last minute to make a decision can make you choose poorly. And just like that, when you’re fearful of taking action, you may start letting others decide for you, which is a huge mistake.

If you can relate to all this and you find it hard to take action, then you may also realize that you often want to have everything under control. It’s like a need. However, it’s impossible to control everything.

A man jumping.

Just imagine that your boss unexpectedly fires you. You wouldn’t know which decision to make. The same would happen if your partner leaves you. When you have a hard time making decisions or taking action, the surprises will surely be unpleasant.

“You have to take risks. We will only understand the miracle of life fully when we allow the unexpected to happen.”

-Paulo Coelho-

Also, when you stay in your comfort zone, your fears start to wear you out. This is when you’re constantly having doubts or when you’re insecure that you won’t accomplish anything, even when you’re qualified to achieve your goals.

Taking action is essential to living the way you want and avoiding having others make decisions for you. We all have fears, but we also have the power to overcome them.

So, instead of letting your fears limit you, you can use them to your favor. How? By using the trembling, the doubt, and the need to escape to jump in the water and take action. This way, your fears will lose their power over you.
