Life is Fleeting: Live It
We’re all made of moments and memories. In fact, we’re mere travelers in time, yet acting as if we’ll live forever. However, the truth is that everyone’s life is fleeting. Our lives are like footprints in the sand that the waves instantly erase. Despite this fact, you tend to believe that you’re made of stone.
You insist on living your life thinking about what’s hurting you and regretting what you don’t have. Therefore, you forget to enjoy what you do have. You let time slip away, not believing for a moment that nothing lasts forever, whether it’s something you love or something that hurts you.
You want everything now. You give yourself no space to breathe. Everything goes by too fast for you to enjoy it. It seems that in today’s world of fast food, express dating, and schedules packed with work appointments, you’ve lost perspective of the value of time. You worry more about suffering than taking pleasure in the simple things in life.
“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.”
-Mae West-
Life is fleeting, live in the moment
You don’t know how to live in the moment. You prefer to move quickly, looking at the ground instead of enjoying the place where you are. In fact, you prefer running instead of walking and breathing in what surrounds you. You prefer to let time slip through your fingers than to seize the moment with force and live it without fear.
You want everything immediately because there’s always something more important, something beyond enjoying the present moment. Hence, you forget to enjoy what you have because you never stop long enough to realize it. You live locked in a tunnel of time, a dark tunnel that prevents you from seeing what surrounds you and that pushes you blindly toward an uncertain future.
“Anything worth doing is worth doing slowly.”
-Mae West-
You live your life as if you’ll live forever. You don’t enjoy what you have around you. Furthermore, you behave as if there’s plenty of time to enjoy the good things when, in reality, there isn’t.
You’re stuck in your own suffering
When something hurts you, you get stuck in your feelings of pain. You immerse yourself in your hurt and embrace the damage as if there were nothing else in the world but your problems. You blind yourself to the pain and stop seeing what else is out there.
In addition, you don’t look for solutions. Your conversations become monotonous because time stopped for you when you’re suffering started. In fact, when you’re in pain, you don’t recognize that life is fleeting because it seems eternal and full of suffering.
In the black hole of suffering in which you gladly see yourself immersed, you blind yourself to the light that helps you escape from your problems. That’s because you’re only capable of feeling that the good things always pass you by. You forget to remind yourself that life is fleeting and your pain is only temporary.
Life is fleeting, live it without fear
It’s better to remind yourself that life is fleeting and the best thing is to live it fully without fear. Choose carefully how you spend those precious moments. You decide whether to think that a glass of water is half-full or half-empty. Both statements are correct, but the most optimistic way is the one that’ll make you enjoy your life the most.
Things happen and change. You can decide how you experience your own situations, both the good ones and the bad ones. You can enjoy each present moment and escape suffering. However, you must accept both in their fair measure.
You decide how to spend each minute, how to color each memory, and how to accept each moment. You live your life and shape your present. Only you can decide whether to enjoy every step of the way or cling to your fears and be unhappy.
When the end comes, only you can avoid wanting more time to do what you haven’t done. However, no one can give you more time. Life is fleeting. Only you can decide if you take advantage of it or let it pass. Every second counts, live each one and don’t look back. Live, or else you’ll regret it.
