I Won't Let You Feel Alone

Together, our voices are stronger. Together, we can go farther. We’re all responsible for what happens around us.
I Won't Let You Feel Alone

Last update: 25 July, 2020

This letter is for you. I want you to know that I won’t let you feel alone anymore. No one will pass you by, you’ll no longer feel unappreciated or taken advantage of. I won’t let you feel alone because you deserve just as much as everyone else, simply for being yourself. You deserve everything you’re worth.

Maybe things didn’t start out how you thought, or maybe everything got twisted up when you thought that something was changing. Or maybe you wanted something you couldn’t have. Perhaps you couldn’t see what was obvious to everyone else. Maybe you even cried for help and no one listened.

It doesn’t matter how things started or what happened. You’re here, and it’s your turn. What do you want? Where are you headed? What’s your goal for today?

I won’t let you hide your face anymore. From now on, you’ll keep your eyes on yourself because you’re the most important thing. I’m here, although sometimes you forget it. I’m not sure how much or how little I can do, but I’ll do it. I won’t let you feel alone. Although I might not know you, I know my words can heal you.

Do you know why I know all of this? Because I’m the voice of everyone. Because we can all do it. E very one of us can do our part and help in whatever way we can.

We’re all with you, now you’ll never feel alone

I’m writing this letter to myself as well. I’ve been where you are now and I’ve felt alone too. Or maybe I’m writing to my future self, maybe I’ll feel abandoned and lonely later on. This letter is supposed to remind you, and me, to not be afraid.

I won’t let them stop you, hurt your pride, nor tear your self-love to pieces. You’ll be protected from those who hope to wreck your dreams, chase you, and strike fear into your heart. I won’t let this happen to you nor anyone else around me.

You won’t feel lonely and you won’t have to live with fear. I’ll be there to help you find your inner voice, to encourage you when you feel down. Even if I can only help you with my words, I’ll use them to motivate you to keep going, get up, and move forward.

“We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.”

-Ronald Reagan-

I’ll do whatever I can to help you. You should know that you’re not alone. All of us can help. What’s more, if we all work together, we’ll be stronger, bigger, and more powerful. We can face whatever comes along and look fear and pain in the eye and say that we’re here and aren’t going anywhere.

Do you know about the bystander effect?

In 1964, Kitty Genovese was murdered in her doorway. It took an hour and a half for the murderer to kill her, and some of her neighbors witnessed the crime. Some sources say that 38 of her neighbors were home, but some of them never called the police and others waited too long to do it. How could this have happened? Is there any kind of explanation for this human behavior?

In fact, this psychological phenomenon is called the bystander effect. It argues that the help that we give is inversely proportional to the number of people who witness what’s happening. In other words, the more people involved in a given situation, the more likely it is that they’ll take longer to offer or ask for help.

Later studies have corroborated this effect. Help is slower to come when there are more people present. This concept is also known as diffusion of responsibility.

That is one of the reasons why it’s good to know that we’re all important, that our help matters. You can’t just stand there and wait for others to act. We’re all responsible for what happens and every one of us has the power to do something about it. You may only be able to make a small contribution, but it’s better than nothing.

I won’t let you feel alone

No one can change the past, but I’m telling you that I’m here now and that you can count on me. I’ll never let you feel alone or give up. You’ll never feel abandoned and you’ll never be one more story on the news. I won’t let that happen. Let’s join forces so that none of us ever feels alone again.
