Hope Can Light Up Your Life

Hope Can Light Up Your Life

Last update: 07 November, 2016

Energy is the engine of life, and there’s no better fuel than hope to produce an effect on your actions. Hope has guided all of us since we were young and started to become aware of the little things, pushing us to go beyond the limits that we thought we had.

That’s why you can’t live without hope that constantly renews itself and drives you towards your dreams. If you want to be an actress, adopt a child, start a business; it doesn’t matter what it is, just try it. Who says you can’t? Hope will bring you closer to reward, and it can even show you that you’re capable of achieving what you desire.

“Hey. Don’t ever let somebody tell you… You can’t do something. Not even me. All right? You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.”

-The Pursuit of Happyness (movie)-

Experience hope as if you had never felt it before, taste it as if it were the first time you tested anything like it, enjoy it as if it were only yours to enjoy, and feel complete. Never let it die out, because it will be the brightest light you’ll ever have.

The two sides of hope

Having hope is completely irrational, hence the simultaneous adrenaline and danger. Especially because, if your expectations aren’t fulfilled, you’ll probably feel like you’ve failed. This is precisely what reinforces the idea that some people are “deluded;” they go through most of life with their head in the clouds, and when they fall, it’s always more painful.

Sooner or later we all go through a time of personal fantasy in which the hope takes over our minds and keeps us from thinking clearly. We act from the heart, in such a way that the risk of hitting or missing is the same. That’s the problem with the other side of hope: reason loses control over our actions.

My biggest hope is to keep hoping

Besides this negative aspect, we wouldn’t be able to get up in the morning if we didn’t have the hope to face the day. Your body needs this positivity and mental strength to stay on your feet and achieve your goals.

“There is one thing which gives radiance to everything. It is the idea of something around the corner.”

-G. K. Chesterton-

Hope is not just a thing for fools. Without it, we wouldn’t really be alive. You’ll notice this when something bad happens and you say to yourself “I need to regain hope.” You can’t do a job well if you don’t have the will to finish it. Relationships wouldn’t work without hope. You wouldn’t overcome any challenges if you weren’t truly motivated to do it.

This is really the reason why we can’t deny ourselves hope. A future full of hope is still completely uncertain, but hope is the energy that drives us towards it. Without hope, the future is just an indefinite present, a weary road, an orbit of adversity that you don’t want to face.

You’ve lost hope, so how can you get it back?

Sadly, sometimes things happen that push you down so hard that your will to do anything completely goes away. When this happens, your mind cries out for help and asks you to give it another chance. How can you do it? Here are a few ways:

  • Keep a routine and establish prioritiesIt’s hard to regain the motivation to have new experiences if your life was completely disorganized before. So it’s really helpful to stop and think about the things that are important to you, and what should take a backseat.
  • Go to a specialist if necessary. Sometimes the disappointment is so big that you can’t get out of the hole by yourself, so it might be helpful to lean on people who love you and can help you feel better.

“The separation between past, present, and future is only an illusion, although a convincing one.”

  • Find activities you enjoy. There are a million ways to invest your time, and you’ll be happier if you do things you like. Occupy your mind with something that can fulfill you, and discover new activities because you’ll probably find something that’s more your speed.
  • Make short-term goals. Plans and dreams are achieved little by little. Basically no one has achieved something they wanted in one step. Rather, they’ve walked slowly and collected the rewards of small goals. This will help to increase your self-esteem and grow.
