5 Ways to Find Happiness in Small Acts
It’s possible to find happiness in small acts. Who said that we can only find fulfillment in great events and achievements in life? Each day is valuable and each act has its own meaning. However mundane that act may be, it affects your way of seeing and experiencing life.
The ability to feel happiness in small acts is almost a gift. We don’t come to the world feeling happy. We build happiness as we discover that it’s the key to feel good about ourselves. In this regard, we must fight to be happy.
“Expecting too much happiness is an obstacle to happiness.”
-Bernard Le Bouvier de Fontenelle-
If you look hard enough, there’s no such thing as insignificant actions. We consider them that way because we assume they’re run of the mill, everyday things. We don’t consider they have a great impact on our lives. However, if you think about it, even the way you wake up impacts your day in some way. The same happens with other routine actions. This is why we need to learn to find happiness in small acts.
1. A happiness inventory
First of all, each person should make their own happiness inventory. This should be a list that contains all those things that seem insignificant but generate a sense of well-being or pleasure.
2. Organize, strip, and recycle
Although it may seem strange, organizing spaces and personal objects brings us a sense of well-being. Even if you do this with objects that don’t belong to you, it gives you a sense of inner order which is very pleasant.
When you feel discouraged, there’s nothing better than to dedicate a little time to order your space and belongings. Don’t take it too seriously and don’t feel like you have to organize the whole world at once. Enjoy the things that surround you and take care of what you have.
3. Nature and walking barefoot
Our encounters with nature help us remember that we’re alive and that we deserve to be happy. You don’t have to leave the city or organize a complicated plan to get in touch with nature. Just go to a park where you feel good.
Walking barefoot on the grass is an authentic therapy. It’s an activity that can give you energy and deeply relax you. In fact, walking barefoot in any space is always a good thing to do. If you can walk barefoot on the grass or the sand, even better.
4. Smile and give hugs
We obviously love the people around us, like our partner and our friends. However, we don’t always express our love fully. One of the small acts that can make us happy is demonstrate that love in a more obvious way.
Hug your son today, without a special reason, and tell him how much you love him. You can also do this with your partner, parents, and the other people who are important to you. It feels so good to give a natural, embracing hug. On the same note, we shouldn’t forget to smile to the people in our lives and give them a little piece of happiness.
5. Walk and take deep breaths
Never forget the enormous value of rest. Learn to respect those spaces of relaxation because they can determine your physical and mental health. Rest is something you have to consciously think about daily and make a part of your life.
A great way to rest is to allow yourself to take a short walk. Try to do this during the day while the sun’s still out. This is one of the most relaxing things you can do. These walks can free you from stress and make you feel better. It’s important to breathe fresh air and not confine yourself to the indoors all day.
As we noted in the beginning, we can easily find happiness in small acts. Happiness is the sum of a few pleasant moments. You can build a lifestyle in which those small actions have real meaning. These small acts contribute to a better state of mind and greater joy.
