10 Simple Tricks to Be Happier
Our happiness depends on us. We’re the only people who can be responsible for our happiness; don’t look for it in other people! Being happy is inside of us, but it will only poke it’s head out if we let it.
Happiness is inward, and not outward; and so, it does not depend on what we have, but on what we are.
– Henry Van Dyke
If we begin to train ourselves through little tricks each day, we can reach a higher grade of happiness. Do you dare to start?
Here are 1o simple tricks to being happy:
1. Don’t lock yourself up
Share laughs, discussions and experiences with people who truly appreciate you and bring positivity to your life. A good joke or a hug can be a great remedy to any sickness, don’t you think?
Sharing with others in a healthy manner will help you to feel better.
2. Keep doing what you love
Go to museums, take a hike, go for a walk, garden, paint, write…
Take time for you; take time to do what you really love. It will help you stay active, feel alive, whole and accomplished. Don’t sit on the couch watching life pass you by.
3. Enjoy the little things
Drinking a cup of coffee while watching the rain through the window, feeling a sincere hug from a child, kisses…
4. Take care of your dody and mind
Disconnect from technology, from the computer and your iPhone, and go out to get some exercise to wake up our endorphins, the ones responsible for happiness.
Besides, if we take care of our body and mind, we’ll have a healthier and more positive image of ourselves.
5. Be an altruist
Altruism gives us a true happiness that can’t be explained in words. Doing things for others while expecting nothing in return makes us feel happier and like better people.
6. Learn to say “No”
A lot of times we feel unhappy because we don’t know how to say “no.” Why should you always have to live for other people? Why don’t you learn that “charity begins within yourself”?
We can’t always do things for others in sacrifice of our own desires. Reassure yourself and start by respecting yourself.
7. Don’t give up in tough times
Remember that “this too shall pass” and that life goes on.
Although it’s true that life is full of bad experiences and there are a lot of rocks along the way, there are also a lot of beautiful times that soften the blow.
8. Meditate on a daily basis
It’s been proved that meditating for a little while every day can help us to release stress, anxiety, depression… It definitely helps us become happier.
Start little by little and increase your time without rushing, and going at a pace that’s comfortable for you. The most important element is beginning and establishing the good habit.
9. Listen to music
Without a doubt, music fills the soul. People who frequently listen to music are happier. Don’t think twice about playing music when you’re feeling sad, down or alone. You’ll immediately feel the effects.
10. Accept what you can’t change and fight for the things you can
Don’t grip too tightly to the things you have, and understand that everything in life is transitionary.
There are certain things that don’t depend on us because that’s just the way life is.
Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.
