Tricks to Find Motivation
Are you one of those people who abandons everything because you think all hope is lost? Norman Vincent Peale said that “it’s always too early to give up.” Sometimes, when it seems like everything has failed, there’s always one more ray of hope. Even though you might not have motivation, there are still opportunities to take advantage of, you just might not see them.
If you look at the stories of some highly successful people, you’ll see that they weren’t all natural talents that tasted the sweetness of success on the first try. Steve Jobs suffered failure and rejection. Abraham Lincoln lost various elections before he became president. Henry Ford seemed like little more than a dreamer when he imagined vehicles circling the roads. Vera Rubin couldn’t study at Harvard because she was a woman, and she ended up being one of the most renowned astronomers on the planet.
“To be a good loser is to learn how to win.”
-Carl Sandburg-
We could name dozens of other examples of people who never gave up. Even when they lacked motivation, they found the strength within them to keep moving forward. So now we’d like to offer you a few tricks that can be useful in your personal and professional life.
Tricks to find motivation
You’ve probably come across many people who wanted to motivate you. Your loved ones want to see you be happy and take action accordingly. Your boss wants you to fulfill your potential and be more efficient at work.
The Keys to Self-Motivation, written by life coach and philosopher Pablo Maella, is especially helpful in this regard. What happens when all seems lost? Can we find the strength to keep going?
Maella offers a few tips that are worth keeping in mind. If you maintain an objective and positive perspective, you’ll put yourself back in the right direction. To do so, it’s important to…
Accept reality
Being realistic is essential for finding motivation. If you expect too much from other people, you’ll probably end up disappointed. However, by being realistic and objective and adapting yourself to the circumstances as the situation requires, you’ll avoid losing motivation.
Complain a little less
Sometimes we find ourselves pissed off with the world. We complain about anything and everything. We feel miserable and unfortunate, until we end up getting carried away and forgetting our worth and our abilities. We stop being proactive.
Logically, this is a huge mistake. It doesn’t resolve anything. In fact, it just makes things worse. Instead of getting carried away by discouragement, what if you made a realistic plan of action and immediately started taking things into your own hands?
Always have a positive attitude
It’s normal to get discouraged from time to time. However, no matter how much effort it takes, you should never lose your positive attitude. Nature is a great teacher in this regard, because there is calm after every storm. So it’s best to keep up a good mood, even though it’s difficult and complicated. The way you act in the face of adversity will be a good indication of the final result.
Avoid confusing positivity with naivety
In reference to the above point, it’s important to clarify that you shouldn’t confuse having a positive attitude with being naive. You have to be realistic at all times and not lose your objectivity. To do so, your goals need to be achievable. Otherwise, your good mood and motivation will end up disappearing.
Find meaning in what you do
Do you think that what your doing has no purpose? When this is the case, it’s hard to get out of bed every morning. However, if every step you take has a purpose, you’ll certainly find meaning in what you do. Every task you perform, no matter how insignificant it seems, has a higher purpose, don’t forget that.
Never stop being proactive
If you get lazy, you’ll become a mere spectator in your own life. You have to be proactive. You have to take the reins and be the protagonist in every scene. Don’t let other people make your decisions for you.
Persevere
To be motivated, hopeful, proactive, and positive, you have to persevere. Don’t give up at the first sign of adversity. Find the tools that will help you move forward. And if one fails, find another. If you notice yourself losing strength, look within yourself and find your ability to put forth effort, be responsible, and be consistent. Don’t let anything or anyone hold you back. Persevere towards your goals.
“Fortune favors the brave.”
-Virgil-
