The Biggest Risk Is Not Taking Any

The Biggest Risk Is Not Taking Any

Last update: 05 February, 2017

In love, at work, in the world and in life, risk is inherent to all human beings. A person who doesn’t pursue their dreams and try to meet their goals for fear of failure is already floating out to sea in life. They become unable to find the courage inside their soul.

Taking a risk for something we want with all our might is an action that humans have been doing since the day we started to have some awareness about ourselves. So, attempting to live safely under a false shell of protection is a risk in itself, since we are going against our own human nature, which is in itself passionate, curious, lively and risky.

“… In a world that is changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.”

The risk taken by those who take none

If you’re looking to set yourself up for failure, rest assured that not taking any chances in life will get you there every time. When we live life crouching low to the ground for fear of failure, we can have complete confidence that we will never achieve anything worthwhile.

Taking risks is as natural to us as breathing, seeing as we live in a very inhospitable environment that confers no survival safety to humans. As much as you may try to assure your place in it, nothing is guaranteed in this world.

The daily risk

If you think about it, risk is an everyday thing and you live with it on a day to day basis. Have you ever stopped to think about it? Well, let’s do a practical exercise in this regard using the following examples:

Do you go on the streets every day to go to work? Who guarantees that you won’t have an accident with a car that breaks down in the middle lane, or encounter a dark-souled person trying to steal from you while you walk? At that very moment, you are putting your life at risk.

Now, for a much simpler exercise. When you take a shower, the bathroom becomes very slippery when the tile comes in contact with soap. Can you imagine spending a lifetime without getting underwater for fear of the consequences?

If we continue this discussion, we note that nothing is guaranteed in our daily lives. If you’re going to have a child, you run risks. If you buy a house with a mortgage, you run risks. If you choose a job and not another, you run risks. If you buy a car, you run risks.

Why not go a little further?

Now that we’ve run over the everyday risks we are running daily , why not go a little further? Like it or not, our existence is very weak in comparison to our natural environment. While it allows us to breathe and eat, i.e, our planet, it can also kill us at any given time.

Therefore, since going to sleep at night or waking up in the morning imposes a constant risk, I think I’ll go a little further and choose not be alone on the surface. I’ll run any risk that’s needed to be happy in this life.

“Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.'”

If there is a job that I’ve always dreamed of, I’m going to run the risk and try to devote myself to something that fills and completes me. I won’t choose the first job that falls at my doorstep for the sole reason that they’ll pay me.

If there is one person I would love to spend the rest of my life with, I will not stay away for fear of rejection. I will run the risk of them saying no, but I will work daily and tirelessly for a yes.

If there is a dream I always wanted to see accomplished, I’ll take my chances and dare to make it happen, since it’s something that would make me very happy and make me feel fulfilled as a person.

Since I have to take risks every day with every step I take, I have every intention of achieving my goals and dreams, and doing the things that are good and beautiful in life. I will never run the risk of not trying, since that in itself is the biggest risk in the world.
