Stephen King is one of the most prolific authors alive today. Over the span of almost 30 years, he’s created a literary world rich with characters, stories and emotions.
Even though his literature is based on psychological terror, he has a few quotes to offer that have inspired us, so we would like to share them so they can have the same effect on you:
1. “The scariest moment is always just before you start.”
How many times have you felt fear just by thinking about all the things you have to do? All the way from declaring your love to jumping from a plane, the moment right before you do it is full of adrenaline and feeling.
We can’t deny that doing it generates a series of contradictory emotions. The important part is taking the step and not letting fear get in our way.
Once you get started and take your first steps to following your dreams, you’ll feel a lot of fear. But keep going and don’t stop!
2. “Fiction is the truth inside the lie.”
This is an excellent quote by Stephen King that talks about the value of fiction. We tend to think that fiction is just a story, but it tends to tell us more about life than anything else.
Really think about it and you’ll see that the messages we hide in the stories we tell contain our deepest truths; even the ones you would never dare tell anyone.
3. “You can, you should, and if you’re brave enough to start, you will.”
Whoever thinks that taking the first step to reaching any given goal guarantees them success is wrong. It shouldn’t limit you instead but make you take action. You a need a lot of courage for this; courage which you can only find within yourself.
Once you get started, getting through the obstacles is just another step. Take it one challenge at a time.
4. “Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win.”
Stephen King is an expert in this subject. All throughout his life, he suffered through a diversity of problems that allowed him to create the wonderful world in his books.
Think about it: how many times have the voices in your head kept you from doing what you really wanted? Listening to those voices that tell that you can’t do it, that you’re not good enough or that you’ll fail will freeze you and leave your feet stuck to the ground, disabling you from moving forward.
Don’t let your internal dialog dominate you. Only you can defeat the monsters inside your head.
5. “Optimism is a perfectly legitimate response to failure.”
Failure is a very complicated concept. We tend to see it as a problem, but it’s also a wide open door to opportunity. The only person who can decide what a failure is and how far it holds you back is yourself.
You have the possibility of seeing failure as something extremely negative, or to look at with extreme optimism. If you choose the latter, you’ll be closer the reaching success.
6. “Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.”
Although we can’t say Stephen King has one of the most conventional jobs, it’s not easy for anyone to go on with their day to day lives.
Can you imagine how many people have amazing ideas to start businesses, write books or undertake other types of activities? But those ideas are worthless if you don’t act on them and make them your reality.
7. “We make up horrors to help us cope with the real ones.”
Fiction allows us to escape. We read and create to escape the challenges that life impose. You can write, paint, dance or do anything that helps distract you from your thoughts.
These activities can help you deal with moments and events that are harmful to you. It doesn’t matter how easy your life may seem at first glance, surely you need to distract yourself once in a while.
Through his words, Stephen King teaches us great life lessons. If you have yet to read one of this geniuses literary masterpieces, now would be a good time. You’ll find his words not only inspiring, but also capable of trapping you inside a world like no other.
