5 Ways to Improve Your Self-Confidence

5 Ways to Improve Your Self-Confidence

Last update: 21 June, 2017

Believing in yourself isn’t something that happens overnight. It’s built over time and requires work.

The feelings of indignity, humiliation and fear that we’ve all been subject to since childhood don’t make it easy. However, it’s never too late to start building, even if you have to lay the first stone.

Believe in yourself as an original

Comparing yourself with others only leads to the erosion of self-confidence. Ultimately, it’s absurd to compare. After all, we’re all different. Instead of wasting time comparing yourself with others and pitying yourself, use this energy to take advantage of your abilities, develop your skills, and fulfill your purpose.

You’re not the same as the others. You don’t need to be. What you have is enough, because it’s what makes you special. Wishing it were any other way only undermines your self-esteem.

Instead, search within yourself for your strengths. You have them, but you haven’t explored them because you’ve spent too much time complaining.

Remember who you are, what you’ve been through and what makes you special. When you know your true self, the person beneath the surface will be reborn.

Leave the pain of the past behind to improve your self-confidence

Has your past really passed? Not always.

The past is only behind you when you’re able to forgive and forget and when you’re able to take advantage of the painful experiences to learn and become stronger. The painful experiences of the past are what have made you who you are today. Be proud of your scars, because they are your strengths.

Sometimes, the burden of memories and past betrayals weighs on us and the effects of mistakes make us feel guilty. Instead of dragging this pain around, choose to forgive and leave them behind. Look forward, live in the present, and focus on your destination.

Everything that has happened to you is a lesson that you can use to help yourself grow, create a new level of thinking and become stronger and more mature. Don’t let yourself be weighed down by it. Instead, use your past to grow and support your future.

Overcome the fear of leaving your comfort zone

Getting out of your comfort zone is risky. Therefore, it can be scary. But that’s where you’ll broaden your horizons and discover a world full of possibilities that you didn’t know until now. However, you have to leave to see it.

Taking this first step, however small, will help you to know yourself better. It well help you to explore your true abilities and to overcome the first real barrier: yourself. Your limits are where you put them.

You can only gain confidence in yourself by doing what you are most afraid of. When you face these fears, you realize that your fears are nothing more than treacherous products of your mind. And when you face them, you feel powerful and capable of doing more.

You are much more than your past or your labels

Who you are is not defined by your past, your last name, or your labels.

This may matter to many of those around you, but you are much more than that. You don’t define yourself by that. It is a part of you, of course, but there are many more things that complete your true self.

To increase your confidence in yourself you have to recognize, find, and support yourself. Discovering yourself will provoke a deep transformation. You will begin to act differently and will be more conscious and focused.

This knowledge will also allow you to discover your vulnerabilities. Face your weaknesses with love. Give them a meaning: they are there to show you the way to improve and grow.

Live life under your own values

Your spirit dies slowly when you live contradicting your own values. Your life is yours. Therefore, you’re responsible for it. If you let yourself be carried away by what marks you from the outside and you’re not true to yourself, you cease to be free. You give in and you lose confidence, since you let yourself go.

If you’re in a situation or a relationship you don’t like, remember that it’s the result of your decisions. Also remember that you can choose a better path for yourself, even if it may seem impossible to break the pattern.

However, if you rethink the situation and filter through your values, you’ll see how your confidence flourishes as a result of your perseverance and mental strength. Your values are much stronger than external impositions and social conventions. If nobody lives for you, nobody can decide for you. Therefore, review your values and discover yourself.

Our self-confidence flourishes when we take control of our own lives. When we’re the drivers, rather than the passengers. Making decisions based on what is right for you will help you overcome the inevitable difficulties. This will also help you improve your self-confidence.
