31 Tips from Tibetan Wisdom

31 Tips from Tibetan Wisdom

Last update: 28 July, 2022

What do we seek in the world? Health, peace, money, love? The wisdom of the Tibetan monks provides a possible answer: we seek happiness within ourselves in order to experience it with others.

Tibetan Buddhism developed in the Himalayas, spread and became of great importance in areas such as Northern India, Nepal and Bhutan. Tibetan sages have given us many tips for living happier, more fulfilling lives. Here are a few:

1-Speak slowly, but think quickly.

2-Do not judge people by their family.

3-When you say “I love you,” say it honestly, with the heart and not out of habit.

4-When you say “I’m sorry,” do so by looking into the eyes of the listener. A sorry must be heartfelt.

5-Never laugh at other people’s dreams or discourage one from pursuing them.

6-Give people more than what they expect of you and do it cheerfully.

7-Always keep your favorite poem or phrase in mind to tell you everything.

8-Do not believe everything you hear, and do not spend everything you have; sleep like there’s no tomorrow.

9-The greatest love and greatest achievements always involve great risk .

10-When you lose, try to learn the lesson.

11- Respect yourself, respect others and take responsibility for all of your actions.

12- Do not let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

13-When you know you made a mistake not try to hide it. On the contrary, confront it and try to find a quick solution.

14-Spend at least a few minutes each day alone reflecting your actions.

15-You should be open to change, but never let go of your values.

19-Even if you disagree with your loved ones do not bring up the past.

20- Read people between the lines.

21- Share everything with children, especially your knowledge. This is the only way to achieve immortality.

22- Be kind to the land. Each day she gives you everything you need.

23-Never interrupt others when they are praising.

24- Do not meddle in the affairs of others and do not give advice in vain.

25-Do not trust someone who kisses without closing their eyes.

26- Visit a place you’ve never been at least once a year.

27- If you earn more money than you need, use some to help others.

28- Remember that not all wishes can come true.

29- Respect your elders; they have gone through where you have yet to get to.

30-Judge your success by what you had to sacrifice to achieve it.

31- Your “I” is the end point of your journey, in other words, the way to achieve a profound understanding of who you are on the inside.

Gabriel García Márquez said that wisdom comes to us too late…I think that comes early in our lives but we do not know how to access it. We spend half of our lives trying to get the answers to everything and trying to get everything we want.

If we were to put these tips into practice and direct our actions according to these values, we would reach an inner calm that would make our lives much easier. We live in a world that has no place for spirituality and for cultivating ourselves, so it is extremely important to explore. Searching within ourselves is difficult but it’s worth it .
