The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming

Last update: 16 February, 2016

Lucid dreams are dreams we experience while we are asleep, but at the same time we are conscious of the fact that we are dreaming.

Lucid dreams are usually more frequent in individuals between 10 and 19 years of age, and diminish as we grow into adulthood. In fact, adults are rarely able to enjoy this kind of dream.

“Dreaming is necessary even when the dream goes beyond reality.”

-Ayrton Senna-

Consciousness in dreams

Have you ever found yourself dreaming, but in that dream you know that nothing is real? Being conscious of the fact that you are dreaming while you are in your own dream is a phenomenon called “lucid dreaming”.

There are two different levels on which lucid dreams can be experienced. On the first level, you know that you are dreaming, but you don’t know how to identify what is happening. On the second level, you are completely aware of your dream, even to the point of being able to control it.

Being conscious of your own dreams can be very beneficial and can help you in your real life.

Dreams can help solve your day to day problems

Many of our daily problems appear in our dreams. They torment us, and remind us of situations we try our hardest to forget. However, what remains unknown is whether or not dreaming about these problems can lead us to finding the best solution to end them.

Lucid dreams can allow us to reflect on how to process the problems that arise in our day to day lives. They can help us to consider how we should approach these problems, and figure out what we want to gain by solving the problems.

With this in mind, these dreams can become an indispensable tool that can be used to choose the right path towards solving our problems. So, how do they do it?

“Look at the solution, not the problem.”

-Donald Trump-

Lucid dreams encourage imaginative thinking. The mind becomes more active and is able to find solutions to a wide variety of problems that had previously seemed hopeless. It can also be said that this type of dream increases positivity. This is because they lead us to see the light in the darkness of our problems and stresses.

Increase your self-confidence

As we have mentioned, lucid dreams can help you resolve your problems and feel much more confident in life. This will have various positive effects:

  • Increased ability to concentrate
  • Stronger and reinforced memory
  • Stimulation of creativity
  • Helpful in combating stress and anxiety

All of these positive effects will help you accomplish all that you set out to do. They can lead you to feeling happier with yourself for being able to reach your goals and resolve your conflicts.

Your professional and creative abilities will be bolstered thanks to these dreams. They will help you to reduce stress and anxiety that can sometimes become overwhelming.

If you regularly have lucid dreams, you will surely identify with people who always wake up with energy, who wake up satisfied with their life.

Dreams let you sleep better and overcome your fears

Contrary to what it may seem, lucid dreams can help us have better quality sleep due to the fact that we are more relaxed when we have these dreams.

Being able to reflect on these problems and find a solution through our dreams can end up helping us sleep more soundly at night.

Furthermore, if we sleep better, we also wake up feeling better. We are able to take full advantage of the time we get to sleep.

But what about our fears? There are many situations that make us feel scared, whether it is because of phobias, traumatic events, or circumstances that are out of our control. Lucid dreams can resolve many of these things, too.

Lucid dreams can help us confront and resolve our fears.

Let’s imagine that one of the lucid dreams you have had is of a person chasing you and trying to attack you. This dream may be recurring and be a representation of a feeling of insecurity. What can having this dream accomplish?

Just as it is possible to freely reconstruct and direct a lucid dream, if we decide to put a face on the person who is attacking us and catch them, we will be conquering whatever fear it represents. Being able to overcome a personal fear in a dream can help us overcome a real insecurity we have in real life.

These are just a few of the benefits that lucid dreams can offer. So, if you are conscious of your dreams, congratulations! You are helping yourself to have a happier and more satisfying life.
